Wondering about the automatic clock mechanism needs a commensurate and information-ridden answer. It is difficult to reach our days, without having gone through a process of improvements based on the construction and proper functioning of automatic clocks.
Through this post, we tell you how the automatic clock mechanism was developed for this collector’s pieces, and which were the brands that developed the most important innovations. Read!
The history of the automatic clock mechanism
History tells us that anyone who has a minimum of interest in mechanical watches, knows how to differentiate those that are perfectly hand-wound from automatic ones.
But what happens inside an automatic watch? How did the rope mechanism develop to the perfection of our day? At the end of the eighteenth century, the first watch was invented that used a rotor like those of today, but it was not known for sure who was the precursor, until, experts in the field maintained that its origins were in Belgium.

Years later, the development of the creation of an automatic winding mechanism began, with a mass that oscillated pendulously, with movements up and down. An example of this type of watch is found in Grossman’s Atum Hamatic.
And it is that the so-called wristwatches had their maximum boom during the First World War of the early twentieth century, giving rise to a series of curious designs of automatic watches of this type. Among them, the Haton Rolls watch stands out, which introduced an essential feature to date: a mechanism slid into the case through small rails with ball bearings that made the watch wind.
The importance of Rolex in the development of the automatic clock mechanism
If there is one company that had greater notoriety from the 1930s, it was Rolex, which had the genius to add the 360-degree rotor for automatic wristwatches. Twenty years later, this effective transformation was recognized internationally by its competitors.
Another big company was Felsa, which emphasized introducing two-way rotation. Nothing new at that point in the film, since, in those days, Rolex was still taking the podium with such elegant innovation.
And to give life to something so technical, the response is achieved thanks to the mechanical change, which rectifies the rotation in both directions, winding the barrel, independently of the direction of rotation of the rotor. Today, new transformations continue to appear that use this curious system.
Later developments

All these improvements were a great advance and impulse to achieve the integration of the winding system in the mechanism of an automatic clock during the years after World War II, already past the decade of the 50s.
It cannot fail to mention that there were some doubts about the operation of automatic winding watches in the 80s, since technology did not portend anything positive. However, they came out ahead.
At the gates of the XXI century, the use of silicon as the main material of this type of watch was still considered revolutionary. Over the years, these silicon spirals are increasingly sought-after pieces on the market, and their price usually oscillates around three figures.
And what does the future hold for the automatic watch?
The present is rich and varied, the faithful public is increasingly interested in the supply and demand of automatic watches, paying special attention to the way in which they are built and, of course, the operation of the system that makes the watch come to life.
And it is that, from necessity virtue is made and, probably, in the not too distant future, other more advanced materials at a technological level coexist with those that continue to exist today and that, still, are considered in a high status, almost of exclusivity.
It should be noted that, as we have mentioned before, there is still a lot of public enthusiastic about this type of manufacture and solid materials that accompany automatic watches. As long as major investors and factories continue to invest in the industry as they have done so far, the life of automatic watches will continue to drag on over time.
